USTC International Students Celebrate the New Year 2018
2018 New Year Party is hosted jointly by Office of International Cooperation (OIC) and Foreign Students’ Association (FSA) in the West Campus Auditorium on the evening of 29th December, 2017. OIC teachers and staff and over 500 international students from more than 50 countries gathered together to celebrate the upcoming New Year. The party started with a speech delivered by Mr. Jiajie Jiang, deputy director of Office of International Cooperation. Mr. Jiang summarizes the work of international students in 2017 and expresses his thanks to FSA and his greetings and best wishes to the students for the New Year.
The first performance is given by students of Class 3, TWAS 2017, named “Let’s Go One Belt and One Road”, which combines traditional and modern music, eastern and western cultures, Peking Opera and rap. The audience gets an understanding of the history of Silk Road through the rap words and the Belt and Road Initiative through President Xi’s talk in the background of the performance.
“Teacher in Trouble”, by students of Class1 TWAS-2017 and their teacher Ms. Nicole, depicted the students’ experiences and diligence in learning Chinese language. “My Life in China”, by students of Class 2, TWAS 2017, is the mixture of humor and dedication and reflects the hardships and problems that most international students may encounter at the beginning of their life in China.
The songs “Miles Away”, “Friends” and “Gotten be You and Me” are performed by Class 1, and Class 2 of TWAS-2017 and Class 2 of CSC. These Chinese songs are indeed a huge challenge for the international students who have just learnt Chinese for three months, but they show their confidence and enthusiasm on the stage. People are rather impressed by Chinese costumes, Chinese paper-fans as well as by different languages, such as Arabic, Pakistani, Mongolian, Hindi, Nigerian, Rwanda Languages.“A Grateful Heart”, by Class 1 of CSC, reflects their gratitude towards the USTC big family.
The dance “AFRICA” is full of passions, performed by students from several Africa countries, and some audience are encouraged to dance with them. The song “Hefei”, by Samijadi M Firdaus, is actually reworded from “Chengdu”, and his fluent Chinese gains a big applause. The whole party is ended with “Welcome 2018”, an exotic dance by students from Class 4 of CSC.
