White Paper on Quantum Technology Issues

  • The International Conference on Emerging Quantum Technology (ICEQT 2019) ran through from September 15 to 20 in Hefei, Anhui, China. More than 500 experts of research institutes and universities shared their views on the prospect of quantum technology.

Quantum mechanics, also known as quantum physics, is a physical theory that describes nature at the smallest scales of energy levels of atoms and subatomic particles. Without quantum mechanics, there would be neither modern computers and mobile phones nor the Internet, and therefore the modern history of humanity would be different from what it is now. Thanks to hard work and breakthroughs, quantum technology has been proved to improve information security, calculation speed and measuring precision and so on.

"The world has witnessed China’s rapid development in quantum information science and technology in recent years. China now has a chance to be a leader in quantum science", said Professor Peter Shor, a leading quantum information scientist, during the award ceremony of Micius Quantum Prize on September 18.

Issued by the conference committee, the white paper on quantum information and quantum technology (Hefei declaration) summarizes a series of consensus on quantum communication, quantum computation, quantum metrology and international collaboration.

The conference is organized by CAS Center for Excellence in Quantum Information and Quantum Physics and Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at Microscale, University of Science and Technology of China.
