Application for a Stay Permit Official Letter

If you need to extend your stay in China for reasons other than visiting or working, such as delays in contract signing or other circumstances requiring an extension of your stay, you may apply for a stay permit.

Individuals holding a work-type residence permit issued through another organization cannot apply for a stay permit through our university.

Please send the following documents to fanliangchen@ustc.edu.cn and indicate the reason for your application:

• Passport information page
• Current valid visa/residence permit page
• Page showing the entry stamp for your most recent entry into China
• Explanation of the reason for the application

Important Notes

• Only one stay permit may be issued during each period of entry into China.
• The stay permit can be issued for a maximum of 30 days, and the permitted stay may not exceed the permitted stay under the original visa/residence permit.

• The application must be submitted within 7 days of the letter’s issuance date in order for the 30-day stay period to be counted from the date of acceptance. Otherwise, the application may be rejected, or the 30-day period may be counted from the letter’s issuance date.

Where to Apply

After receiving a notification that the documents are ready for collection, please take the following materials to the Exit-Entry Administration authority:

2nd Floor, Zone B, Element Market, No. 2588 Nanjing Road, Hefei （南京路2588号要素大市场B区二楼）
Opening hours: 9:00–12:00, 14:30–17:00
Foreign-related services are not available on weekends or public holidays.

Required documents:

1. Official letter issued by USTC for the stay permit application (from us)
2. Copy of the Legal Person of Institution of USTC (from us)
3. Accommodation Registration Form (to be prepared by the applicant) Note: Before your stay permit is issued, you must continue to reside at the registered address. If you are staying at a hotel, you must remain there until the stay permit is issued and only then check out.
